Bávaro is the long hotel strip on the east coast: the big all-inclusives, El Cortecito with its fishing boats and pedestrian street, and Los Corales with the low-rise apartments and villas behind the beach. From La Romana it is a genuine cross-country run of an hour and three quarters, not a short hop, so we quote it as a planned drive with a comfort stop if you want one. Travellers book it when a La Romana flight suits the schedule better, when they are moving between the two coasts mid-trip, or when a cruise calls at La Romana and the hotel is up here.

How the Bávaro pickup runs
