What happens if you open the app after customs
LRM is a small, single-hall airport. You walk off the aircraft, clear immigration in a queue that is usually one or two planes deep, collect your bag and are outside in fifteen to thirty minutes. Then you open the app, and the map is empty. That is the normal result here — not a surge, not a coverage blip.
La Romana simply does not have the driver density that makes ride-hailing work. The drivers who do use apps are mostly in Santo Domingo, two hours west, and none of them will run empty to a scheduled arrival at a boutique airport. On the rare occasion someone accepts, the message that follows asks you to walk out to the public road, because a non-concession car cannot legally stop at the terminal door.
There is no trick that changes this. If you are landing at LRM, plan on either the official taxi or a car booked in advance.
The curb taxi at LRM: what it actually is
Walk out of the arrivals hall and the licensed airport taxis are right there. They are legitimate, the drivers are regulated, and on a quiet arrival you will be moving within a few minutes. This is not a scam warning.
The friction is the same one every airport taxi has: the price is quoted after you have landed, by zone, and it is normally higher than a rate agreed in writing before you fly. On the short runs — La Romana town, Casa de Campo — the gap is a handful of dollars. On Bayahibe and Dominicus it is wider, and on anything toward Punta Cana or Santo Domingo it becomes a real number.
The second issue is supply. LRM handles a few flights a day, many of them charters. When two arrive together the rank empties quickly, and when a delayed evening flight lands there may be very little waiting outside at all.
Why the pre-booked private car exists
A pre-booked transfer fills the gap the app cannot. You send the flight number, hotel and party size on WhatsApp before you fly. We reply with the price in writing. We track the flight, so a late landing moves the driver and not the price, and he is standing in the arrivals hall with your name on a printed sign.
The car is yours. No second family in the back, no detour to a resort you are not staying at. From the door it is a straight drive: 10 to 15 minutes into La Romana, 10 to 20 to Casa de Campo, 25 to 35 to Bayahibe, 30 to 40 to the Dominicus resorts.
You pay the driver on arrival, cash or card, at the number we already quoted. Nothing leaves your account weeks in advance.
Price examples, so you can compare honestly
Our fixed one-way rates are per vehicle for one to six passengers, taxes and tolls included: La Romana $25, Casa de Campo $29, Bayahibe $40, Dominicus $45, Higüey $70. VIP, a luxury SUV or executive vehicle, runs $59 to $120 across those same zones. Seven to fourteen passengers move to a van, which adds $20 on Standard and $40 on VIP.
Curb quotes on the same runs are typically 30 to 50 percent higher, and that range is what guests who priced both report back to us — it is not a published tariff and it moves with the hour and the season.
On a ten-minute run to Casa de Campo the saving is small. What changes the decision for most families is the certainty: a name sign, a number agreed in writing, and a driver already watching the flight.
If you still want to try an app
Inside La Romana town you will occasionally get a local app or a hotel-called taxi for a short hop, and in Bayahibe the village taxis work well for dinner. Neither is a plan for the airport.
Going back to LRM the app is a bad bet for a different reason than the arrival: a no-show at 6 a.m. with a 9 a.m. flight costs you the flight. We schedule departures on a buffer instead — two hours from La Romana and Casa de Campo, two and a half from Bayahibe and Dominicus.
