Price: quoted after landing vs agreed before you fly
The airport taxis work from a per-car rate by destination. It is a real structure, but you meet it at the moment of least leverage: bags in hand, children tired, no comparison available. Our rates are fixed and written down before you leave home — $25 to La Romana, $29 to Casa de Campo, $40 to Bayahibe, $45 to Dominicus, per vehicle for one to six people, taxes and tolls in.
The typical curb range in the table below is what guests report after pricing both. Treat it as an observed range for that hour and season, not anyone's published rate card. It moves; our number does not.
Wait: the queue vs the sign
LRM is small, so the rank is rarely a long line. The problem is the opposite one: when a charter lands late in the evening and the last cars have gone, there may be nothing outside at all, and the airport is not a place with alternatives around the corner.
The pre-booked driver is inside the hall before you clear customs, holding a sign with your surname. Your walk from the customs door to a seat with the air conditioning running is usually under two minutes.
Flight delays: who absorbs them
This is the clearest gap between the two. A curb taxi does not know you were meant to land at 6 p.m. and landed at 11:40 p.m. — the car is whichever car is there when you walk out, at whatever the rate is at that hour, if any car is there.
A pre-booked transfer is attached to your flight number. We watch it. A three-hour delay moves the driver, not the price. Send the number itself rather than the scheduled time, because the number is what we can track.
Night arrivals
After about 9 p.m. LRM goes quiet quickly. The road east to Bayahibe and Dominicus is fine but dark, resort security gates want a name on a list before they raise the barrier, and the Casa de Campo guard post is a conversation you do not want to be having with your luggage in the boot.
A pre-booked driver already has your reservation name and the property's access routine. If your flight lands after dark, book ahead — that is the one case where we would say it flatly rather than let you weigh it.
Groups and luggage
A curb taxi is sized for whatever is at the front of the queue. Six adults with six large cases plus golf clubs for Teeth of the Dog is not that car, and splitting into two taxis doubles the fare and separates the party.
Our Standard covers one to six passengers with luggage in a single SUV or minivan at one price. Seven to fourteen moves to a passenger van: plus $20 Standard, plus $40 VIP, quoted in the same message. Child seats are free — tell us the ages and we fit them before pickup.
When the curb taxi is genuinely the right call
One person with a carry-on, landing at 2 p.m., staying in La Romana town or at the Casa de Campo hotel, with no plan made — take the rank. The run is ten minutes and there is nothing to solve.
Everything else — children, four or more bags, an evening arrival, Bayahibe or further, or a fixed number you want to see before you fly — is the case the pre-booked car was built for.

Hotel name, flight number, date and party size. We reply with the fixed rate, track the flight and meet you inside arrivals with a name sign. Pay the driver on arrival.

- Are airport taxis at LRM safe?
- Yes. The cars outside arrivals are the licensed airport concession. The trade-off is not safety: the price is quoted at the curb after you land, and late in the evening there may be very few cars left.
- Is a private transfer cheaper than a taxi from La Romana airport?
- Usually, and the gap widens with distance. Our fixed Bayahibe rate is $40 against a typical observed curb range of $55 to $70; Dominicus is $45 against roughly $60 to $80. On a ten-minute Casa de Campo run the difference is small.
- Do I pay in advance for a private transfer?
- No. You confirm on WhatsApp and pay the driver on arrival, cash or card, at the number we quoted in writing.
- What if there are eight of us?
- Seven to fourteen passengers ride in a passenger van: Standard plus $20, VIP plus $40. One vehicle, one price, everyone together.
