When we recommend leaving the peninsula

For Las Terrenas we plan a pickup 6.5 hours before your flight, and 7 hours from Samaná town or Las Galeras. That is not padding. The drive alone is 4 to 4.5 hours, the ridge road out of Las Terrenas is slow behind a truck, and the road south fills up on Sunday afternoons. On top of that you still need checkout, the airline counter and security at La Romana, which bunch up around the mid-morning charter wave. Groups of six or more, and anyone on a Saturday changeover, get the upper end of the window. Send the flight number when you book and we confirm the exact pickup time back to you in writing the day before.

How the Las Terrenas pickup runs

Resort gate and lobby pickup

The driver arrives before the agreed time and waits at the main entrance with your name. For apartments and villas we agree a visible meeting point in advance — a gate, a reception or a pinned location — because addresses on the peninsula are not reliable.

Luggage and bigger groups

Suitcases, surfboards, strollers and dive gear are all fine; tell us the luggage count with the booking so the right vehicle turns up. On a four-and-a-half-hour road nobody wants to travel with a case on their knees, so we size the car properly instead of squeezing.

Night and early-morning departures

Pre-dawn departures are normal here and cost the same as a midday run. For a 10 a.m. flight from La Romana that usually means a 3 to 3:30 a.m. pickup in Las Terrenas; we confirm it on WhatsApp the evening before so nobody is guessing in a dark lobby.
